‘YouTube’ BURGLAR CONVICTED Defendant Linked to Similar Crimes in Dekalb County Atlanta- Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction by jury trial of Degeorgio Jackson, 21, of Atlanta. Jackson was sentenced this morning to 20 years, fifteen of which will be served behind bars, for the infamous ‘caught on camera’ burglary of a Grant Park home last year. On October 27, 2008, Defendant Jackson and two other suspects kicked in the door of Dan and Alyssa Kopp’s home and stole their flat-screen television, laptop and digital camera. Fortunately, the Kopps had video surveillance in their home and captured the crime on tape. They then posted the video on ‘YouTube’. Prosecutors also introduced video of a similar burglary the same day in Dekalb County in which the defendant is seen stealing a flat screen television along with three other suspects. The Dekalb County homeowner also posted his video on ‘YouTube’. Jackson was arrested the day after those crimes in a home filled with other stolen electronics. Both victims’ property was recovered and returned. Jackson is also linked to a burglary in the City of Decatur. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter presided over the case. It was prosecuted by Zone 3 Community Prosecutor Claire Farley, with assistance from Senior District Attorney Jim Miller and DA Investigator Chantry Heard. Detective A. Levester of the Atlanta Police Department led the initial investigation.
