DA’S OFFICE RECEIVES TOP COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Innovation, Passion for Youth and Community Recognized

Atlanta- The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is the proud recipient of the 2009 “Zenith Award for Service to the Community”. The award was presented by the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA) during the organization’s annual Glitter Gala and Auction on July 18, 2009.

GABWA’S Zenith Award recognizes a corporation, firm or organization that has demonstrated exceptional service to the community by assuming a leadership role in enhancing the welfare, health, education, political or financial empowerment of minority communities.

The District Attorney’s Office was nominated for the award for its outstanding outreach programs including Junior DA, Legal Lives, Partnership for Perfect Attendance, ACT Truancy, and Teen Court. These youth initiatives focus on prevention and intervention strategies, promoting education and fostering an understanding of the judicial system. The DA’s Office also promotes community involvement through its nationally-recognized Community Prosecution program---a concept that places prosecutors in neighborhood-based offices for greater visibility and accessibility to citizens.  District Attorney Howard called the Zenith Award a testament to the hard work and commitment of his staff. “The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is tasked with an important core mission: to professionally and competently prosecute felony cases. However, we also have a larger responsibility to the community as a whole to seek innovative ways to not simply prosecute criminals but to prevent crime as well. Working together with the citizens of Fulton County we can make our communities safer and stronger for the benefit of all.”  

GABWA was founded in 1981 as a voluntary bar organization with a primary focus on women and children’s issues.
