TRIPLE MURDERER SENTENCED TO DEATH!

De’Kelvin Martin Gets the Maximum for Killing Boy & Grandparents

AtlantaFulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announces triple murderer De’Kelvin Martin has been sentenced to death. The 32-year-old Martin pleaded guilty Tuesday, January 4th, to murder, felony murder, aggravated sodomy, rape aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to children in a 2002 incident that left three members of one family dead. It’s been described by police officers, investigators and prosecutors as one of the most gruesome crimes ever committed in Fulton County.

Martin admitted he was high on cocaine and alcohol on the night of October 1, 2002 when he began violently raping his girlfriend, Tymika Wright, at knifepoint. When her 12-year-old son came from his bedroom to see what was going on, Martin slashed and cut Savion Wright with the knife, leaving him lying in a pool of blood.

When his girlfriend’s mother, 77-year-old Ila Ivery, went to investigate, Martin stabbed her repeatedly. And when Ila Ivery’s husband, Travis Ivery tried to get out of bed to help, Martin stabbed him so forcefully the knife broke off in the 83-year-old man’s chest. After rending all of the family members present bloody and helpless, Martin finished raping Tymika Wright in front of their one-year-old son. Wright and Travis Ivery died that night, Mrs. Ivery died from her injuries three months later.

Following today’s sentencing hearing, District Attorney Howard thanked Superior Court Judge Gail Tusan for “the courage she displayed in imposing this sentence.” “This is one of the most horrendous cases in the history of the county,” Howard said, “and the facts of the case cried out for the death penalty. I am thankful Judge Tusan came to the conclusion that for these murders, this defendant deserved the maximum punishment.”

Assistant District Attorneys Ron Boyter and Kimberly Staten-Hayes prosecuted the case.
