GRAND JURY INDICTS GREGORY FAVORS FOR MURDER OF STATE TROOPER

Atlanta- Less than three weeks after Georgia State Trooper First Class Chadwick LeCroy was tragically gunned down in the line of duty, a Fulton County Grand Jury has indicted his accused killer. 30-year-old Gregory Favors was formally charged this afternoon in an eight-count indictment on charges of Murder, Felony Murder (two counts), Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Theft by Taking, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Fleeing and Attempting to Elude.

Trooper LeCroy, 38, was shot and killed on December 27, 2010 after attempting to stop the defendant for a broken taillight. Favors fled from the trooper and later crashed his car near the intersection of Hightower Road and St. Paul Avenue in Atlanta. As Trooper LeCroy approached the wrecked vehicle, he was met with gunfire. He suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his neck. Defendant Favors is accused of then driving off in Trooper LeCroy’s vehicle and then abandoning it a few blocks away on Gun Club Drive. He was arrested a short distance away by Atlanta and Cobb County police officers.

Following today’s indictment, the case will be assigned to a Fulton County Superior Court Judge and scheduled for trial. District Attorney Howard is scheduled to meet with Trooper LeCroy’s family next week. Subsequent to that meeting, an announcement will be made regarding the pursuit of the death penalty for Defendant Favors.
