GRAND JURY INDICTMENT IN VIRGINIA HIGHLAND MURDER AND RELATED CRIME SPREE

State vs. Tamario Wise, et al.

Atlanta- A Fulton County Grand Jury has indicted six men for the alleged gang-related murder of a Virginia Highland man. The November 22, 2010 killing of Charles Boyer occurred during the height of a month-long crime spree that left citizens throughout Atlanta in fear. Named in the 90-count indictment (detailed in attached documents) are Tamario Wise, 18; Raphael Cross, 22; Whitney McCoy, 18; Octavious Porter, 20; Robert Veal, 17; and Fernandez Whatley, 20, alleged members of the local “Jack Boys” gang. Each man is charged with a variety of crimes including Murder (Wise, Veal and Cross), Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Rape (Wise, Veal and Cross), Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity, weapons charges and a host of other offenses.

The crimes occurred between October 19, 2010 and November 27, 2010. In addition to the murder of Mr. Boyer and the rape of a Grant Park woman, the crime wave included 17-armed robberies and six carjackings- impacting residents in Virginia Highland, Grant Park, Ormewood Park, Lakewood Heights, Old Fourth Ward and Benteen Park.

Following today’s indictment, the case will be assigned to a Fulton County Superior Court Judge and scheduled for trial.

The case is being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Gang Unit.
