Citizens’ CourtWatch is often referred to as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community in court. The program was created by Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. as a vehicle to engage average citizens in the criminal justice system. CourtWatchers are formally trained by the Community Prosecution Unit of the District Attorney’s Office and educated on the fundamentals of law. CourtWatchers also learn judicial lingo and become familiar with judicial processes including the chronology of court proceedings from arrest to conviction and/or plea. As Community Prosecutors track cases involving repeat offenders and those of general interest to the community, CourtWatchers are encouraged to attend court proceedings.

Citizens’ CourtWatch Trainings are held at rotating venues throughout the county and are open to all Fulton County residents. For more information, interested parties can contact Program Coordinator Janet Martin at courtwatch@fultoncountyga.gov or 404-699-5297.
