ARGUMENT OVER BORROWED GUN LEADS TO MURDER
Defendant Found Guilty, Sentenced to Life
Atlanta- Following a week of testimony and evidence, Fulton County jurors deliberating the fate of 18-year old Aaron Overton of Atlanta have found the defendant guilty of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault and weapons charges in connection with the shooting death of his acquaintance, Steve McQuire, 20.
McQuire was gunned down in front of a Kenilworth Drive home on December 2, 2007. Defendant Overton admitted at trial that on the night of the incident he confronted the victim about returning a gun he loaned him. When the victim refused, the two began to argue. Overton then pulled a gun, fatally shooting the victim. The defendant claimed he pulled his gun in self-defense when he saw the victim reach for a weapon. No guns were ever recovered from the scene.
Overton was immediately sentenced to life in prison by Superior Court Judge Christopher Brasher who presided over the case.
Executive Assistant District Attorney Sheila Ross and Senior Assistant District Attorney Cheveda McCamy prosecuted the case with assistance from DA Investigator Steve DiMasi. Detective D. Quinn of the Atlanta Police Department led the initial investigation.
