John M. Davis Sentenced to Prison for Aggravated Sodomy and Aggravated Child Molestation

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction of 40-year-old John M. Davis of St. Petersburg, Florida on three counts of aggravated sodomy and two counts of aggravated child molestation. The Superior Court jury returned the guilty verdicts after a five day trial. Judge Henry Newkirk sentenced the defendant to 60 years in prison to serve 28 years.

The defendant was arrested in 2005 after applying for a job as a sub-contractor in a Florida school system. A routine criminal background check revealed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest here on child molestation charges in Georgia.

In the 1990's, Davis was living in Alpharetta, Georgia and married to a woman with three young sons. Two of the sons, now 17 and 21-years-old testified that their stepfather had molested them when they were 7 and 11-years-old. The older son was visiting his biological father after graduating from high school in 2005 when he told a friend he had been molested by the defendant. At the urging of his father and the friend, he reported to authorities that he had been anally sodomized by the defendant.

The younger son later reported the defendant had forced him to have oral and anal sex. The molestation of both boys took place between June of 1997 and December of 1999. The defendant and the boys' mother were divorced in 2004.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Lawanda Hodges and Dalia Racine. The investigation was conducted by Officer T. Parker of the Alpharetta Police Department and Antonio Long of the DA's Investigations Unit. Services to the victims and other witnesses was provided by Monique Massey of the DA's Victim-Witness Assistance Program.
