NEIGHBORHOOD GOOD GUY GUNNED DOWN BY CONVICTED FELON HOURS AFTER HIS RELEASE FROM JAIL
Killer Now Sentenced to Life
Atlanta- Valentino Jackson, a career criminal, is now serving a life sentence following his conviction by a Fulton County jury on murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges for the shooting death of 52-year old Willie Bailey, Jr.
Bailey was gunned down by Defendant Jackson on November 13, 2008 in the Arcadia Downs apartment complex in Atlanta. The incident was sparked by an argument between the two men. As the victim turned to walk away, the defendant shot him in cold blood in the back, leaving him to bleed to death on the concrete. Mr. Bailey, a resident in the complex, was well-known and loved in the community. Affectionately known as Bubba, he would often run errands and perform odd jobs to assist neighbors in need. Defendant Jackson, a four time convicted felon, had just been released from jail five hours before murdering Mr. Bailey.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Henry Newkirk who presided over the case, levied the maximum sentence possible on Jackson of life plus ten years.
The prosecution team was led by Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney Lance Cross with assistance from DA Investigator Vance Williams. Detective K. Otts of the Atlanta Police Department led the initial investigation.
