Conviction in Grant Park Rape Gets 15-Year-Old Defendant 20 Years in Prison

Edward Palmer Convicted of Rape, Armed Robbery; Co-Defendant Pleads

Atlanta—Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. (Atlanta Judicial Circuit) announces that, following his conviction last week, Edward Maurice Palmer (15) has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Palmer was found guilty of rape, aggravated sodomy, and armed robbery. Co-defendant Quintez Martavious Griffin (15) earlier pleaded guilty to rape and armed robbery (three counts) and was sentenced to ten years in prison. He testified on behalf of the State at Palmer’s trial.

The defendants went on a crime spree spanning three days from 30 March to 1 April of last year in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta. Charges stemming from incidents involving two other female victims were subsequently dropped.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Lee Young-Williams prosecuted the case, Atlanta Police Detective N.K. Redlinger investigated, and Judge Constance Russell presided.
