Kourtney Wright & Kareem Hooker Convicted in Series of North Fulton Armed Robberies Defendants Sentenced to Decades in Prison for 2003
Assaults AtlantaFulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. (Atlanta Judicial Circuit) announces that, following their convictions, defendants Kourtney Wright (21) and Kareem Hooker (23) have been sentenced to 30 years in prison and 20 years in prison respectively for their roles in a series of robberies in north Fulton County throughout November and December 2003. Wright was convicted of armed robbery (nine counts), aggravated assault with intent to rob, financial transaction card fraud (three counts), and financial transaction card theft (three counts). Hooker was convicted of armed robbery, financial transaction card fraud, and financial card theft. The defendants had previously been convicted of similar crimes in their home state of New Jersey. The case involved 14 victims who were assaulted in nine different incidents. For example, on 9 December 2003, one victim was robbed of her wallet by the two male defendants in front of 4000 Spring Creek Lane. Within 25 minutes, Simpson was presenting the cards at the Target store on Johnson Ferry and Roswell Road, purchasing $2,700 worth of merchandise. In this and numerous other incidents, Simpson would drive both male defendants to the locations where the robberies took place and then they went with her to the stores and waited for her to make purchases. Co-defendant Simpson (24) is currently in bench-warrant status for failing to appear. Assistant District Attorney Rewa Collier prosecuted the case. Fulton County Police Detective M. Smith, along with LaSonja Frances-Smith of the District Attorneys Office, investigated. Senior Judge William Ison presided.
