Miles Jimmerson Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder of Charles Wilcoxson Second Victim Permanently Disabled in 2004 Shootings AtlantaFulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. (Atlanta Judicial Circuit) announces that, following his conviction, Miles Jimmerson (21) has been sentenced to life in prison (plus 25 years to run consecutively) for the 16 March 2004 murder of Charles Wilcoxson, Jr. (28) and wounding of Kevin Colbert (24). Jimmerson was found guilty of murder, felony murder (two counts), aggravated assault (two counts), aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The defendant shot Mr. Wilcoxson five times and Mr. Colbert twice after an argument at 1132 Rebel Forest Drive in southeast Atlanta. The argument, which stemmed from an altercation between another individual (Yosheka Jeffries) and the victims over a minor traffic incident, began earlier in the day at 2911 First Avenue in Hapeville. Once at the location of the shootings, the parties continued the argument. Jimmerson approached the victims, reportedly in order to take Jeffries side in the fight. The defendant first shot Mr. Colbert and then Mr. Wilcoxson, who died at the scene. Mr. Colbert was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital but remains disabled to this day. Senior Assistant District Attorney Charles Webb prosecuted the case. Atlanta Police Detective S. Balkcom, along with Crispin Henry of the District Attorneys Office, investigated. Senior Judge Fryer presided.
