Corey Porter Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder
of Romano Rodriguez Defendant Found Guilty in 2002 Shooting Death
AtlantaFulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. (Atlanta Judicial Circuit) announces that, following his conviction, Corey Porter (32) was sentenced to life in prison plus five years for the 27 June 2002 murder of Romano Rodriguez (31), a clerk at the Braves Food Mart at 1575 Simpson Road in northwest Atlanta. Porter was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. For reasons that remain unclear, Porter began shooting at the victim through the stores service window, hitting Mr. Rodriguez in the neck. He died two weeks later. Senior Assistant District Attorney Michelle McCutcheon prosecuted the
case, Judge Elizabeth Long presided, and Atlanta Police Detective L.
Daniel investigated.
