Andrew Edwards Sentenced to Life Plus 45 Years in Prison for Murder of Nathaniel Hubert

Defendant Convicted in 2003 Carjacking Incident

Atlanta—Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. (Atlanta Judicial Circuit) announces that, following his conviction, Andrew Edwards (21) has been sentenced to life plus 45 years in prison (and a $10,000 fine) for the 22 October 2003 murder of Nathaniel Hubert (42). Edwards was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault (three counts), hijacking a motor vehicle, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Mr. Hubert and Terrance Grimes, who were unloading items from a van, were carjacked at 1483 Eason Street in northwest Atlanta by the defendant (along with two as-yet unidentified males). Edwards demanded the keys to the van, and the victim simply replied, “You don’t have to do this.” At that point, Edwards shot the victim in the chest, killing him instantly. He fled to Virginia but was apprehended last year.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Shondeana Crews prosecuted the case. Atlanta Police Detective R. Walden, along with Investigator Tracy Baker of the District Attorney’s Office, investigated. Judge John Goger presided.
