VEHICULAR HOMICIDE AT FULTON COUNTY COURTHOUSE RESULTS IN GUILTY PLEA

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the guilty plea of 19 year old Reuben Boye-Owusu to a vehicular homicide, hit and run and theft by taking of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, May 15, 2007. He has been sentenced to 15 years, ten of those to be served in prison with the remaining 5 years on probation.

On Sunday night, February 19, 2006, the defendant, and a sixteen year old juvenile, stole a car from 582 Formwalt Street. Police saw them run a red light and began to follow them. In an attempt to elude the police, the defendant sped into the downtown area, running a red light on the corner of Central Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, which is located directly in front of the Fulton County Superior Courthouse. The stolen automobile collided with 33 year old Glen Mitchell’s vehicle. He was killed instantly from a broken neck and blunt trauma to the head. The defendant and the juvenile fled the scene, but were apprehended the next day. The defendant confessed to driving the car that struck Glen Mitchell. The blood on the windshield and the steering column matched the defendant’s DNA.
