MAN WHO CUTS HIS VICTIM INTO PIECES WITH CHAINSAW FOUND GUILTY
ONCE ON THE FBIS MOST WANTED LIST CHAUNSON McKIBBINS RECEIVES TWO LIFE SENTENCES
A jury took less than three hours to convict Chaunson McKibbins of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and aggravated assault in what is considered one of the most vicious and heinous crimes ever prosecuted IN Fulton County.
McKibbins, formerly on the FBIs most wanted list, was charged with killing his longtime friend, Demetrius Robbins, 27, because he believed that the victim had stolen a kilo of cocaine from his drug enterprise. The victim was tortured and hatched into ten pieces with a chainsaw. McKibbins then buried the body parts in two locations. He buried nine of the body parts in Decatur and buried the head in Tramell Crow Park near Cascade Road in an attempt to prevent the victim from being identified
McKibbins was placed on the FBIs most wanted list after he fled the courthouse during closing arguments while his Fulton County drug trafficking trial was underway. He was convicted by the jury and sentenced to 20 years for the drug charges. He committed the Robbins murder 13 months later while on the run. Prior to his conviction today, he had three prior felony convictions.
McKibbins murder trial began on April 28, 2008. The Judge sentenced McKibbins to two life sentences plus 10 years to be served consecutively with the 20 years that he received for his drug conviction.
Judge Ural Glandville presided over the case. It was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Kimberly Esmond Adams, Brett Pinion and Daysha Young. Lead Detective on the case was Det. Vince Velazquez of the Atlanta Police Department. The case was investigated by Patrice Nesbitt and Tessa Bowers of the Fulton County District Attorneys Investigations Unit.
