MAN INDICTED IN MURDER OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL STAR

Edward Lee Wallace Charged with 8 Counts in Unprovoked Killing of Kyle Moore

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the indictment today of Edward Lee Wallace in the shooting death earlier this month of Washington High School football star Kyle Moore. The 17-year-old junior was gunned down in his Sylvan Hills neighborhood as he walked home from a MARTA station on Thursday night, May 3rd. Wallace was arrested by Atlanta Police Department officers ten days later at his mother’s home, just a block away from Moore’s home. Moore, a defensive end and offensive lineman, was being courted by Ivy League colleges and others around the country.

The APD learned Wallace had boasted to friends of having killed the “high school football player at the Lakewood train station.” He allegedly told them he killed Moore because he did not have any money as Wallace was robbing him. Wallace also allegedly showed off the 9mm handgun used in the murder. The gun determined by the GBI to be the murder weapon in the case was recovered from Wallace’s bedroom by the APD at the time of his arrest.

Chief Pennington says, “I want to thank the men and women in my department who worked this case so diligently, which led to the district attorney being able to quickly indict this defendant. When the life of 17-year-old is brutally taken from our midst, we must all act expeditiously to make sure the person or persons responsible are apprehended.”

The 8-count indictment handed up today by the Fulton County grand jury charges Wallace with one count of murder, 3 counts of felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Wallace will be scheduled for a plea and arraignment hearing once his case is assigned to a Superior Court judge and placed on the judge’s calendar.
