VICTIM SCREAMS FOR “MAMA” WHILE TRYING TO ESCAPE KILLER AT HIS DOORSTEP

Gunman Convicted, Sentenced to Life

Atlanta- The man accused of gunning down a teenager after attacking and trying to rob him has now had his fate sealed. A Fulton County jury convicted Brandon Lewis, 19, this afternoon of Murder, Felony Murder, four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Lewis was immediately sentenced to life in prison.

18-year old Deonte Hudson was killed on November 13, 2007 in the Bowen Homes housing complex were he lived with his mother. Defendant Lewis spotted the victim at a nearby store and decided to rob him upon his return home. He called ahead to fellow gang members of the ‘Young Dangerous Clique’ and told them to be ‘lookout’ for Hudson so they could rob him. As the victim was placing his key in his front door, Defendant Lewis ambushed the young man and began to punch him. The victim began screaming for his mother who was asleep in the house while fending off his attacker. Hudson was able to break free but was shot down as he ran towards a dumpster just feet away from his front door. The young victim’s mother arrived just moments later to find her critically-wounded son and no signs of an attacker. Hudson died en route to the hospital. Brandon Lewis was arrested nearly ten months later following tips from eyewitnesses who were initially afraid to cooperate with police. The case is still pending against co-defendant Montrez Huff, identified as one of Brandon Lewis’ ‘lookouts’.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson presided over the case.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Ross assigned to the Gang Unit prosecuted the case with assistance from ADA Paul Asare-Bediako and DA Investigator Mark Grant. Detective A.C. Smith with the Atlanta Police Department led the initial investigation.
