The Fulton DA, Police and Volunteers Mount A Neighborhood Canvas Saturday

DNA links this man to the 1995 rape and murder of 14-year-old Nacole Smith and the rape of a 14-year-old girl in East Point in 2004. The Nacole Smith murder has been at the top of the Fulton County Multi-Agency Cold Case Squad’s list since it was established. Our office has tried a number of approaches to apprehend this suspect. We hope this door-to-door canvass will result in this dangerous predator being identified.

While nine years apart, both crimes occurred around the Father’s Day holiday. This Saturday, June 16th, Father’s Day weekend, volunteers will join District Attorney Paul Howard, East Point Mayor Joseph Macon, members of the Atlanta and East Point Police Departments and the Cold Case Squad in a canvass of several East Point neighborhoods. The participants will assemble at the South Fulton Mental Health Center, 1636 Connally Drive at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers will work in teams, supervised by a law enforcement leader. Rev. Timothy Fleming, pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and members of his congregation are joining the search as are members of the United Youth-Adult Conference headed by community organizer Michael Langford.

Refreshments will be provided before and after the canvass courtesy of the Kroger Company and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. We are especially grateful for the support of Kroger and all of the community volunteers.

Nacole was attacked and murdered on her way to school the morning of June 7, 1995. The second victim was raped just a few miles away in East Point as she was walking home. She was able to provide police with the description that resulted in the depiction above.
