ATLANTA POLICE OFFICER INDICTED
Officer Nabbed by DNA
District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announced the indictment of Atlanta Police Officer Wayne Longe upon the offenses of Sexual Assault on a Person in Custody and Violation of Oath of Office by a Public Officer.
The indictment alleges that Longe (40) arrested an Atlanta woman on July 1, 2004 charging her with drinking in public. The young woman (47) was placed in his vehicle and taken to Anderson Park in Northwest Atlanta. At the park, she was sexually assaulted by Longe. He used a condom during his attack. After the victim was released, she returned to her home and notified family members who returned to the park and recovered the discarded condom. DNA tests later confirmed that the condom was used by Longe. Longe could receive a sentence of 35 years to serve.
These charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
