MAN CONVICTED OF MOLESTING GIRLFRIENDS 6-YEAR-OLD TWINS
Mother Ignores Childs Plea for Help
Atlanta- A 47-year-old man has been convicted of molesting the six-year-old twin son and daughter of a woman he was dating. Jurors returned guilty verdicts Thursday afternoon against Gerald Bowen on charges of Rape, Aggravated Sodomy, Aggravated Child Molestation, Child Molestation and Aggravated Sexual Battery. He will be sentenced next month.
Police were called to the home of the childrens grandmother who had temporary custody of them on June 9, 2009. The woman told police her granddaughter disclosed to her that Defendant Bowen touched her down there on four different occasions between January and May of 2009. The girls twin brother later told investigators that Defendant Bowen had touched him as well. During the period of molestation, the little girl told her mother about the sexual abuse, but the woman failed to call police. The mother pled guilty to Cruelty to Children in the second degree and testified against the defendant at trial. She was sentenced to five years in prison.
Sentencing for Gerald Bowen is scheduled for July 18, 2011 before Fulton County Superior Court Judge Kimberly Esmond Adams who presided over the case.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Daysha Young of the Crimes Against Women and Children Unit with assistance from ADA Raquel Stokes and Senior DA Investigator Cindy Williamson. Detective S. Harrell of the College Park Police Department led the initial investigation.
