CHILD MOLESTER SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS

Dantavious Vaughn Must Serve 18 Years and Register as a Sex Offender

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Bensonetta T. Lane sentenced Dantavious Vaughn to 20 years with 18 to serve Tuesday, following his conviction June 11th on one count of child molestation. He will be on probation for the remaining two years of his sentence and must register as a sex offender.

The Fulton County Superior Court jury returned the guilty verdict after hearing the testimony of the victim, the police and medical experts. On August 15, 2004, the 14-year-old girl was looking around her apartment complex—trying to locate her brothers and sisters—when the 20-year-old defendant dragged her into a vacant apartment in an adjacent building and raped her. She reported the assault to her stepfather several days later when the defendant began taunting her about what he had done. Doctors testified the victim’s vaginal injuries were consistent with her having been sexually assaulted. The police recovered genetic material (DNA) from the carpet in the vacant apartment where the victim showed police the assault took place.

The case was investigated and prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Lawanda Hodges, APD Investigator J. I. Siwemuke, Fulton DA Investigator Crispin Henry and Fulton DA Victim-Witness advocate Monique Massey.
