FIST FIGHT BETWEEN MEN ESCALATES TO DEADLY SHOOTING IN EAST POINT

Dispute Over Money Motive for Killing

Atlanta- Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction by jury trial of 23-year-old Joshua Clark. Clark was sentenced to life plus five years following his conviction Thursday on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the shooting death of Jermaine McNeil, 30.

McNeil was shot and killed on January 24, 2009 outside an apartment building on West Woodbury Avenue in East Point. According to eyewitnesses, the men were engaged in a fist fight when Defendant Clark pulled a gun on the victim and shot him in the head. The victim fell to the ground where Clark left him to die. The defendant uttered words related to ‘my money’ as he walked away from the scene. He turned himself into police two days later after warrants were issued for his arrest.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Yolanda Mack with assistance from Senior ADA David Studdard and DA Investigator Steve Dimasi. Detective S. Smith of the East Point Police Department led the initial investigation.
