ATTACK OF TWO WOMEN IN ONE NIGHT YIELDS GUILTY VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT
ATLANTA District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announced that a jury found 30 year old Michael Wyatt guilty on one count of rape and two counts of false imprisonment for separate attacks that occurred on the same day. Wyatt abducted, raped and dumped his first victim onto the streets before luring the second victim into his car, taking her to the same location and attacking her.
In the early morning of June 15, 2007, the first victim was waiting for a bus on Metropolitan Avenue when she was approached by Wyatt in a black BMW. After the victim declined his offer of a ride, Wyatt pointed a handgun and pulled her into his car. He drove the victim to an abandon house located at 1895 Campbelton Road. After parking in the garage, he forced the victim into the backseat of his car and proceeded to rape her for 30 minutes. After the assault, Wyatt drove the woman to an area near her home on Pryor Street and threw her out of the car. The victim immediately called 911 to report the attack. Less than two hours later, the defendant approached his second victim in his Black BMW and offered her a ride. The victim accepted and got into the car. Wyatt returned to the same house on Campbelton Road and attempted to rape his second victim. The woman reached into her purse and pulled out a knife to defend herself. She cut him on the hand, fled the vehicle and approached nearby police officers to alert them of the attack. After a car and foot chase, police apprehended Wyatt and took him to Fulton County Jail. Both victims picked the defendant out of a police line-up. The judge will sentence Wyatt on August 7, 2008.
Superior Court Judge Wendy Shoob presided over the case. It was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Lee Williams and Patrick Hannon. APD Detective T. Peavy was the Lead Detective on the case. The case was investigated by Antoinette Beyah of the Fulton County District Attorneys Investigations Unit.
