ARGUMENT BETWEEN CHILDHOOD FRIENDS TURNS DEADLY

State vs. Robert Smith

Atlanta- Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction by jury trial of Robert Smith, Jr. Smith was sentenced to life plus five years in prison this morning following his conviction last night on charges of Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony for the shooting death of Raymond Brewer, Jr.

Brewer was killed on April 4, 2010 inside the Godby Road apartment of the defendant’s girlfriend. According to witnesses, the two were arguing over a long-standing issue from childhood. Defendant Smith threatened the victim and warned that if he crossed the threshold of the door ‘it was on’. Smith then shot the victim five times with an assault rifle and fled the scene. Brewer died of gunshot wounds to the chest. Smith later turned himself into police.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Constance Russell presided over the case.

It was prosecuted by Senior District Attorney Cheveda McCamy with assistance from ADA Jacoby Hudson and DA Investigator Josh Blakely. Detective T. Jackson formerly of the College Park Police Department (now a DA Investigator) led the initial investigation.
