Victor Davis Convicted of Killing Drug Dealer While High on Crack

Sentencing date has not yet been scheduled

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr. announces the conviction of 38-year-old Victor Davis on charges of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and false imprisonment. Davis was charged with the murder of 42-year-old Marshall Cameron. The jury reached the verdict on Tuesday, August 28, 2007.

The shooting occurred at 1304 Kenilworth Drive in Atlanta during the early morning hours on November 18, 2000 while Davis was high on crack. Davis was a guest in Cameron's home for approximately two weeks before he was asked to leave after Cameron determined that Davis was freeloading. Davis lived with Cameron and Cameron's roommate Darryl Munford without contributing to the household and smoked crack without paying Davis. Witnesses indicated that Cameron was a drug dealer. After being ordered to leave, Davis shot Cameron once in the face, chest, upper arm and shoulder.

After shooting Cameron, Davis tied up Monford, gagged and duct taped his mouth and placed him in a closet. The next morning Cameron's family found his body and freed Monford from the closet. Nearly 36 hours later, Davis turned himself in to police leading to his arrest for murder.

A sentencing date has not been set; however, Cameron faces potential penalties, which include 20 years for voluntary manslaughter, 20 years for aggravated assault, 5 years for possession of a firearm and 10 years for false imprisonment.

The case was tried before Fulton Superior Court Judge Stephanie Manis. ADAs Phyllis Clerk and Shireen Hormozdi prosecuted the case. It was investigated by APD Detective A. B. Calhoun and Fulton County DA Investigator Michael Green. Victim Advocate Pam Powell assisted the victim's family and those called to testify in the case.
