Domestic Violence Suspect Accused of Strangling and Beating
His Female Victim Goes on Trial Monday, September 10

32-year old Alvando Givens is charged with felony murder,
aggravated battery and aggravated assault

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr. announced today that the trial of Alvando Givens begins Monday, September 10, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. for the June 4, 2006, murder of 29-year-old Vonceta Render. Givens is accused of murdering Render during a violent incident witnessed by Givens' children. The case will be heard by visiting Senior Judge Tracy Moulton in Courtroom 4D of the Fulton County Justice Center Tower at 185 Central Avenue in Atlanta.

According to investigators, Ms. Render and Givens had a relationship based on drugs and sex. Events leading to the murder of Ms. Render began on June 3, 2006, when Ms. Render and two friends visited the defendant's residence at 317 Ard Place to buy drugs. Ms. Render entered the defendant's home, returned to the car with the drugs and left with her friends to visit a local nightclub. After leaving the club, Ms. Render expressed her intentions to go back to the defendant's home for the night.

Givens and his two children were present at the residence during Ms. Render's visit. During the early morning hours, the children heard sounds of a fight. They looked into the bedroom and saw the defendant beating Ms. Render to death. After strangling and beating Ms. Render, Givens took her body to her car, drove the vehicle a block away and left Ms. Render's body in the passenger seat of the parked car.

After returning to his home, Givens took the children to their mother's house. Both children told their mother what they saw and she called the Atlanta Police Department. Givens was arrested on June 8, 2006.

If the jury convicts Givens, he faces a possible life sentence for Render's murder.
