RAPIST GETS LIFE FOR BUCKHEAD ATTACK

Atlanta- Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction by jury trial in the rape case against Curtis Green, 40. Green was convicted Tuesday of Rape, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and two counts of Theft by Taking.

The incident happened on April 20, 2002. The defendant, then 31, had just met the then 26-year-old victim who was visiting town. He convinced the stranger to allow him to give her a tour of the city. After driving around the Buckhead area for a while, Defendant Green detoured into a residential area, produced a gun and ordered the victim to the back seat. He then ripped off the woman’s clothes raped her and forced her to perform sexual acts on him. Though nude, the woman was able to escape her vehicle and run for help. Defendant Green fled in the victim’s car. He was arrested three months later during a traffic stop in the stolen vehicle. The victim was able to identify Green as her attacker during a photographic line-up. During testimony, another woman testified being raped by Green in similar fashion a day earlier and then being forced from the vehicle nude.

Green was tried and convicted in 2005. However, a motion for new trial was granted prompting this week’s re-trial. Following his guilty verdict, Green was sentenced to life in prison by presiding Judge Hilton Fuller.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Daysha Young of the Crimes Against Women and Children Unit with Assistance from ADA Jimmy Kim and DA Investigator Cindy Williamson. DA Investigator Frank Lupo formerly with the Atlanta Police Department led the initial investigation.
