Fulton D.A. Senior Investigator M.C. Cox Chosen As “Top Cop”

Atlanta Police Detective Jim Rose included in National Recognition
Tomorrow in New York City

Atlanta—Fulton County District Attorney’s Office Senior Investigator M.C. Cox and Atlanta Police Detective Jim Rose (currently on assignment with the District Attorney’s Office) will be recognized among America’s “TOP COPS” by the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) at a special ceremony tomorrow, 11 September, in New York City. The “TOP COPS” Award is presented annually to law enforcement officers across the nation for outstanding service to their communities. NAPO reviews hundreds of nominations submitted by peers each year to select only ten winners. Local, state, and federal officers are eligible for the award. NAPO’s ninth-annual awards ceremony will also pay tribute to the New York Police Department and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Police Department for their actions during the attack on the World Trade Center.

Investigator Cox and Detective Rose were nominated for their work on a three-decades-old case involving the murder of Atlanta Police Officer James Greene in November 1971. The investigation led to the recent indictment of Freddie Hilton on numerous counts, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and armed robbery. Others involved in the investigation who will be included in the award are New York Police Detectives Christopher Karolkowski and James Moss, New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police Detective Thomas McHale, and FBI Special Agent Don Haldimann. “We are extremely proud of the excellent work done on this case by both M.C. and Jim,” says District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. “While these men do what they do because they are, first and foremost, dedicated law enforcement officers, they nonetheless richly deserve this great honor and national recognition.”

The ceremony, which begins at 7:30 tomorrow evening, will be hosted by John Walsh of television’s America’s Most Wanted and will include celebrity presenters such as James Earl Jones, Ellen Burstyn, Ben Vereen, and Alan King.
