JURY RETURNS VERDICT IN RECORD 10-MINUTES!

Atlanta Man Found Guilty of Murder in Broad Daylight

Atlanta- After just ten minutes of deliberations, a Fulton County jury returns a guilty verdict in the murder case against 31-year old Darrell Dolphy of Atlanta. Dolphy was convicted today of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in the death of 25-year old Rashem Drummond.

Authorities say the two men were engaged in a shootout outside a bookstore on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard on January 3, 2006. Dolphy shot the victim ten times---striking him nine times in the back. The victim fired five shots---hitting the defendant twice. The incident happened during broad daylight in front of several witnesses. The motive for the shooting is not clear, but Dolphy, who took the stand in his own defense, claimed self-defense. Dolphy has not yet been sentenced. There is currently another murder case pending against him.

Judge Constance Russell presided over the trial. Assistant District Attorneys Chuck Boring and Shireen Hormozdi lead the prosecution with assistance from Investigator James Higgins of the DA's Investigations Unit. Detectives Brett Zimbrick and Nicole Redlinger of the Atlanta Police Department were the lead detectives.
