EAST POINT MAN CONVICTED OF BURGLARY
Extensive Burglary History Factor in Lengthy Sentence
Atlanta- Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction by jury trial of Jimmy Brown, 35, of East Point. Jackson was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to serve without parole for the burglary of an East Point home.
On March 25, 2009, Defendant Brown and another suspect kicked in the door of a home on Parkside Terrace and stole the homeowners flat-screen television, desktop computer and digital camera. The victims next-door neighbor heard the commotion, called 911, and gave a description of the suspects and the vehicle involved. Minutes later, East Point Police spotted the vehicle on Sylvan Road and a high-speed chase ensued. Jimmy Brown was the driver of the car and was apprehended after a short foot chase from the car. All of the victims property was recovered. Brown has an extensive record including five previous burglary convictions.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Richard Hicks presided over the case. It was prosecuted by Zone 6 Community Prosecutor Josh Geller with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Michael Garrett and DA Investigator Chantry Heard. Detective F. Drake of the East Point Police Department led the initial investigation.
