COUSINS CONSPIRE TO KILL A FORMER LOVER FOLLOWING MONEY DISPUTE

Defendant Wanted Victim to Pay for ‘Keying’ New Boyfriend’s Car

Atlanta- Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the conviction by jury trial in the murder case against two cousins. 32-year-old Shauna Smith and her 23-year-old cousin Gregory Eric Williams were charged with Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and weapons charges for the 2007 shooting death of Smith’s former boyfriend Brian Mosley, 29.

On December 3, 2007, officers from the East Point Police Department were dispatched to a “shots fired” call at an apartment complex on Laurel Ridge Way. When they arrived, officers found victim Brian Mosley deceased on the stairs of the 500 building. The door to his nearby unit was forced open and there was evidence of a struggle inside. A neighbor reported hearing gunshots and then seeing three men flee the area in a black SUV. No suspects were identified until an anonymous tip came in to authorities from someone who overheard Defendant Smith stating that she had ‘set-up’ the victim because he owed her money. Smith and Victim Mosley were lovers until the victim caught her with another man. Out of anger, the victim allegedly “keyed” the other man’s car. Defendant Smith paid for the damages in excess of $800 and wanted to recoup the money from Victim Mosley, who she claimed refused to reimburse her. Smith then enlisted the help of Co-defendant Williams to strong-arm the victim into paying. Following a struggle with the gunman, Brian Mosley died of gunshot wounds to the chest and blunt force trauma to his head.

Following their conviction this afternoon, Defendants Shauna Smith and Gregory Williams were sentenced to life plus 25-years consecutively by presiding Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville.

Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney Fani Willis prosecuted the case with assistance from DA Investigator Olyemphis Huff and ADAs Alex Brown and William Miles. Detective S. Buchanan of the East Point Police Department led the initial investigation.
