District Attorney Paul Howard Announces Indictment in Murder of Lynette Wright

Alvin Gilstrap Charged in 2003 Death of Woman Dumped in Sewer

Atlanta-Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. (Atlanta Judicial Circuit) announces that Alvin Gilstrap (46) has been indicted for the 26 August 2003 killing of Lynette Wright (48). Gilstrap has been charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault (two counts), and concealing the death of another. Ms. Wright's body was found in a sewer drain near 46 Westland Boulevard in northwest Atlanta. Gilstrap and the victim had been romantically involved for several months when, on the day of the incident, the defendant came upon the victim hanging out on the street late at night. He became upset with her, and they began to fight. Gilstrap picked up a brick and struck her repeatedly about the head and shoulders. He then dumped her body into the 30-feet-deep sewer drain.

These charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
