The Administrative Division
|
 |
The day-to-day operation of the District
Attorney's Office falls within the ambit of the Administrative Division,
which is supervised by the Deputy District Attorney for Administration
and Training. The division manages personnel matters, Information
Technology, Planning and Evaluation, Records, and the budget. The
division maintains updated personnel files for each employee and
has also developed a formal hiring procedure that includes an application,
hiring panel, background check sheet, conditions of employment review,
and an interview manual indicating questions that can and cannot
be asked. A comprehensive Employee Manual has been
developed to which all staff may refer on questions of Office procedures.

Information Technology Department
The Information Technology Department is primarily responsible for supporting
the computer network and responding to user needs. This department is
supervised by the Deputy District Attorney for Administration and Training.
Chief among the duties of the Department is to oversee the increased
use of computer technology by the entire staff, and to protect the integrity
and security of the office electronic data. Also, the department seeks
to eliminate redundancy, replication and duplication of effort and data
entry by the staff.
| In May 1998, the District
Attorney selected a case management and tracking software package
known as "Prosecutor Dialog" for use throughout the Office.
The installation and implementation of the software signaled the
end of the era of paper-based tracking systems and record keeping
and into an era of reliance on computers to maintain and archive
information. This new case management system allows |
 |
| staff to track the status of cases and generate reports,
reducing the need to generate and move paper from office to office.
Additionally, all of the Office's commonly used legal forms reside
on the case management system and can be accessed and generated
electronically. It is worth noting that this software is being installed
in several other prosecutors' offices throughout Georgia. |
Planning and Evaluation Unit
The Planning and Evaluation Unit of the Administrative Division is responsible
for budget enhancements, short and long range strategic planning, and
grants. Since its inception, the Unit has also secured additional funds
for special projects such as backlog reduction and archival data entry.
Planning & Evaluation is also responsible for maximizing the use
of available grants. Between 1997 and 1998, the Unit was responsible
for the receipt of over $400,000 in such funds. In 2001, the office
secured over $1 million in grant funding.
